President Dave shared a thank you letter from Palomar College Athletics for our contribution; they helped us with traffic control at the Grape Day 5K

 

The President also announced that a total of $1,400 was raised to support the victims of the Paradise Fire; $500 from the club and an additional $900 from members… Thanks to all for the great generosity!

 

Past President Jim Ponder visited Nashville, Atlanta and Dresden Germany… bringing back some goodies for President Dave… Among all of the treats was a ‘pocket fraulein’… Whoa, getting a bit racy here…

 

 

 

Ralph Tavares recently visited his homeland in Brazil, and returned with some coffee for the President…

 

 

Past President Constance Larsen was recently in her homeland… Idaho, and brought the President some ‘Spud Candy’….

 

 

Rorie Johnston announced the ‘Community in Unity’ event that was to take place on November 29… Lots of PJs being collected for the ‘Friends of Scott” charity for the children at Rady Children’s Hospital…

 

 

Past President and Rotary Foundation Chair, Kevin Svetich presented a Major Donor Award to Past President Alan Miller and his bride, Lorraine Page… Alan and Lorraine have contributed over $10,000 to the Rotary Foundation…

Program:

President Dave introduced today’s program; Michelle Shores, the Director of Forensic Health Services at Palomar-Pomerado Health. Michelle shared with Sunrise Rotarians the importance of the forensic work in supporting victims of domestic violence, rape and abuse… Working closely with law enforcement, they assist in training police personnel and social workers as they prepare to respond to all cases of personal attacks and abuse…

Michelle described the multi-disciplinary approach to treating victims, aiding in prosecution, and supporting the healing process for those victims. She shared that there are no fees to the victims for the services offered by the program, however law enforcement is assessed service fees. The program’s work with law enforcement is critical, as together, they have achieved a 72% felony conviction rate for cases they have worked. The Center at Palomar-Pomerado and a center at the Justice Center in San Diego serve the entire county for victims of sexual assault, choking and other physical abuse crimes…
