Escondido Sunrise Rotary; Meeting to Serve our Community in Person and via Zoom; and “Technology and Its Impact on us for the Future”… April 14, 2022

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…

The President’s Gavel is Missing…

The meeting was intended to begin with the gavel resonating off the esteemed Presidential Bell… The gavel was no where to be found and a makeshift device was used …

Past President, Mike O’Malley happened to have a substitute gavel which was ceremoniously presented to President Richard…

Hope remains that the ‘real gavel’ will be located and returned to President Richard…

As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag led by Judy Fitzgerald…

And, an invocation was offered by Kim Henson…

Program

An invited speaker was not able to join our meeting due to a conflict… President Richard shared his perspectives on “Technology and the Future”…

Richard began his presentation with some background on his personal connection to technology… From the first computer in the family to some experience in programing… Then, realizing that his real interest was in technology applications and elements of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, he embarked on his current career in technology, that being operational applications…

President Richard speaking to Sunrise Rotarians…

That first home computer...

Variations of Technology Applications...

We all remember “The Jetsons” with technology in the home…

Home delivery of items and the appropriate security measures for such deliveries…

To transportations such as 3D printed motorcycles and cars to autonomous drivers…

Along comes aviation-related advancements…

And mobile grocery stores…

And of course, work support...

Agricultural uses that enable technology used in spraying fertilizers and pesticides…

And, of course human companion robots… You can imagine the optional uses that can be created for these characters…

And also, entertainment, including autonomous race cars…

And finally, technology applied to health care, enable paralytics to walk through the use of exo-skeletons…

The Opportunity Drawing…

Big Opportunity this week was $160… Past President, John Boyce had the ‘lucky’ ticket, but drew the unlucky card…

Past President, George Beitner held the consolation ticket and the second prize of $22…  A nice, modest lunch awaits…

See you in Person or on line on April 21…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless our first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
