Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “Meeting to Serve our Community via Zoom; and Understanding the Impact of Covid-19 on our Community’s Behavioral Health”……… May 14, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

So, we met via Zoom… On May 14… 23 Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…

President Brian didn’t need a gavel, and, he called the meeting to order with a ‘Tinkle’… Perhaps he was signaling his butler that his Irish Whiskey glass needed re-filling??

President Brian commented that this was our seventh meeting via Zoom… Won’t it be fun to have an online demotion event??

Past President Mike O’Malley led the pledge to our nation’s Flag…

Past President Jack Anderson offered an invocation…

Program:

Our first attempt at an online program was brought to us by Tina Pope and Neighborhood Healthcare. Wendi Vierra, Director of Operations for Behavioral Health was our speaker…

Dr. Wendi Vierra speaking via Zoom to our Sunrise Rotary Members…

Wendi spoke about the needs that often are magnified during times such as the pandemic. Neighborhood Healthcare operates 17 clinics in San Diego and Riverside Counties, serving over 76,000 individual clients through 305,000 office visits with its staff of 800 plus employees…

Wendi commented that they serve their clients both in person and via televideo consultations, especially during this pandemic.

They partner with many community organizations, all focused on enabling quality of life when clients face challenging circumstances such as homelessness, mental illness, addiction and related behavioral challenges.

Rotarians Having Fun…

President Brian shared a picture of a recent visitor to his shop… Only 5 rattles, so just a ‘kid’…

Beware Brian, it could be the serpent guarding your bell…

Brian also shared a photo of his Bride, Nancy after her recent conquest of the shopping challenge at Costco… Thankfully she doesn’t need to venture onto the Costco battlefield too frequently…

Well done Miss Nancy!!

Next Week’s Meeting:

We have a speaker; our program will be brought to us by Linda Bailey and will feature the development project proposed for the former Palomar Hospital property in downtown Escondido…

Support for the Escondido Community:

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
