Escondido Sunrise Rotary; Meeting to Serve our Community in Person & via Zoom; & “Highlights of Upcoming Events”
January 5, 2023

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…

As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag led by John Schwab and an invocation was offered by Jack Anderson.....

It was great fun Christmas shopping with the kids from the Boys & Girls Club again this year!! It is always a great success, look at the smiles on these kids’ faces and the stories from Santa’s helpers was pretty funny too!!

Happy Birthday to Rich Aeling!! He celebrated with his beautiful wife Donna and Gerry and Leann Fay at a fun birthday dinner. Check out the sweet t-shirt the Fays had made for him

Our very own Jack Anderson, who has been through 3 eye surgeries received his new drivers license that is good for another 5 years!!! Way to go Jack!!

Jim Ponder unfortunately came down with Covid and thought he was going to have to miss out on their annual family trip to Mammoth. His grandson was so upset that grandpa wasn’t going until Jim surprised him after he tested negative by showing up at the restaurant up there. Wish we could have seen the smile on his face and Jim brought back a sweet gift to Tina

Congratulations Rich!! You will be able to get tickets from Doug.

Rich talked about the food packing event that is taking place on January 16th at Orange Glen High School from 9am-11am that is going to benefit the North County Food Bank. They needed 4 volunteers and those spots were immediately filled.

He also shared the thank you letter for the bike build project in Camp Pendleton

Mexicali Building project is coming the weekend of March 23rd, a huge thank you to John Paul the Great school here in Escondido for providing a large amount of material for this project.

PAL fundraising event headed by Al Owen will be held on March 11th

Program:

Barry Baker stirred up a little fun by talking about classifications aka “what do you do”. He asked several people what their classifications are and our club has a very good mix with some “classifications” in the same field which wasn’t allowed when this club first started in the 70’s and 80’s, you were only allowed 1 of each type of business. That has since changed and from everyone’s answers we saw that there are several businesses in the same category. Barry also had us write a poem about being a Rotarian, we have some very talented writers in this club and then there were some that even Google couldn't help!!!

Opportunity Drawing:

The pot of $736 is still growing because unfortunately Doug didn’t get that joker and one of lucky Rotarians walked away with $22 for lunch. Good luck next week………...

Next Week’s Meeting:
Will be in person and online at the Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 AM on January 11th……

Thanks for Attending Today’s Meeting….

Support for our Escondido Community …
Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…
The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless our first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…

Online Meetings:
Technical Support for Online Meetings:
Our meetings will begin as a hybrid setting with in-person and on-line opportunities…The meetings will be technically managed by Past President Richard Agnew… Thanks for that Richard… And, Richard is prepared to support all of our attempts at joining the on-line meetings… Look for his email with details and links to log on to the upcoming Zoom meetings…
Watch for emails defining the next meeting. The system works fine, dependent upon your technical support available through your PC or laptop…

SEE YOU SOON……  In Person or ONLINE… Next meeting; January 11th, 7:30 AM at the Chamber of Commerce…
