The first thing Steve did for us was to gladly induct our newest member, SGT Chris Leso…

Steve acknowledged Chris’ community service role with the Escondido Police Department, and that his entire family serves the community as his wife is a special education teacher in Escondido.

Chris has served as the Traffic Sergeant and has been instrumental in assisting us as we conduct the Grape Day 5K each year. Chris also directs the Police Department Cadet program which Escondido Sunrise has supported each year in their academy training efforts.

Chris Leso, the newest member of Escondido Sunrise Rotary…

Welcome Chris!!

President Chris introduced Governor Steve and provided some background on his Rotary service over the years. Steve is a member of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club, and previously served as President of the Solana Beach Rotary Club.

Steve spoke about the fellowship in Rotary; a key element of our mutual service efforts that inspires him a lot. Steve attends many Rotary meetings (online now through Zoom), and enjoys watching the Clubs in District 5340 serve and grow. He introduced again Dan Ginsler, the Governor-elect, and Chuck Pretto, the Governor-nominee, commenting that he encourages them to be involved as he leads this year.

Steve spoke about Global Grant efforts and commented on our joining in with the Guatemala Literacy project… All efforts like this extend the value of our Rotary Foundation support donations.

Steve commented about Rotary’s success with Polio Plus worldwide and that Africa has been declared ‘polio-free’… Efforts are underway in Afghanistan and Pakistan to vaccinate and stop the disease.

Steve commented about Rotary International’s ‘Seventh Avenue of Service’, that being ‘The Environment’… A new club is forming in Solana Beach which will focus on the environment.
