As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…
 
 
 
 
 
We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…
 
 
 
As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag led by past President Chris Miller and, an invocation was offered by past President Jack Anderson...….

Past President Brian Murphy shared information about the Wood Show beginning on January
14 at the Escondido Arts Partnership gallery… Bran and Nancy have sponsored the show for
many years, and Sunrise Rotary is also a sponsor… Over 100 pieces will be on display… last year over 3,500 visitors enjoyed the exhibit… 
 
 
President Tina announced that John Sawtelle had written her a note of resignation from Sunrise
Rotary; health and accessibility issues prevent his continuing participation… “Thanks for joining
jus in fellowship and service over the years, John…”
 
 
 
 
Program:
 
Past President Barry Baker introduced our speaker, Jennifer Schoeneck, the Deputy Director of Economic Development with the City of Escondido…
Jennifer brings vast experience to her position, both with Public agency and private sector
positions on her resume… Jennifer also shared that she participated in Interact while in high
school… Perhaps a new member of Escondido Sunrise Rotary??
Jennifer spoke about the efforts of Economic Development in our City to “Dream Bigger” as to
our potential to grow the community’s economic vitality… The role of the Economic
Development team is to execute City Council policy for the economic growth of the City…

The efforts of the City’s economic development efforts are to “create wealth for the community’s
benefit”… The Economic Development staff works to attract business, oversee the business
license function of the City and to manage City-owned property…
 
Jennifer outlined the economic development accomplishments in 2022 
And, she shared elements of the City’s economic strategy in the years ahead, Including
vulnerability assessments of the City’s economic future and working with downtown businesses
to strengthen the retail base… including the assessment of creating a downtown business
improvement district…
Jennifer shared some of the economic data that can be obtained on the City Website including
sales tax generation information, and efforts to create local jobs so that the City is not “exporting workers” to other communities…
