President Chris shared that the gift exchange will be on Thursday December 17, and will be virtual. If you are to participate, your wrapped gift (with your name attached) will be kept safely at Aelott Air Conditioning… On the day of the event, the two most honest club members (President Chris and Past President Rich Aeling) will open the gifts during the virtual party, and ‘stealing’ will take place. Program:

Danny Sherlock, President and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego was introduced by Past President Rich Aeling.

Danny Sherlock speaking to Sunrise Rotary members…

Danny shared the challenges the club faces providing care for members within the Covid pandemic restrictions. After being unable to serve their youth and families  between March and May, they opened with fewer club sites available… In March, the club operated 20 sites, serving 2,500 youth per day… Re-opening in May, they only had three sites in Clairemont, 4S Ranch and Escondido. The programs they were able to offer were more of a ‘summer camp’ schedule, with youth taking their classes online at each club site.

The PACE (Pathways to Academic & Creative Excellence) program was developed enabling the youth to do their school work on line and to maintain their work areas in groups of ten club members… All the while maintaining social distancing and extra sanitizing of activity spaces.

75% of the youth in the programs were children of essential workers serving their communities during the pandemic… And because of the smaller groups, the cost to serve each youth member was greater; requiring more scholarship support than under normal operating conditions…

The Club is conducting an extensive fundraising program, all virtual. ESR members were encouraged to sign on for the auction items and door prizes.

In light of Escondido Sunrise’s support for the Boys and Girls Club over the years, Danny was presented a virtual check for $1,000…

Next Week’s Meeting:

Our program will feature Russ Filbeck, speaking about former President, Jimmy Carter…

The next meeting will be via Zoom on Thursday, November 19…

Support for our Escondido Community …

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
