Escondido Sunrise Rotary; Meeting to Serve our Community via Zoom; and “Recognizing Club Accomplishments and Leaders”… October 29, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

 

So, we met via Zoom… On October 29…  Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…

 

President Chris opened the meeting… Even with a gavel and the familiar chime of a gavel striking a bell…  23 Sunrise Rotarians joined the Zoom meeting… Nice job all of you for joining us…

Membership Chair, Joe Holtz led our salute to our Nation’s Flag…

Sunrise Rotarians Having Fun…

Our Project Mercy work began with the assembly of framing elements in Chula Vista…

Past President Rich Aeling explained the process, and thanked the 20 plus volunteers from Escondido Sunrise and the After Five Club that made this part of the project a success…

 

 

Past President Jack Anderson had some fun with his family and three grandsons picking apples in Oak Glen…

 

Our Club’s effort to support the North County Food Bank with donations of peanut butter came to a close… Pictured is lots of Pnut Butter along with some members of the Escondido Sunrise and the After Five Club…

 

Past President, Barry Baker and his family (including children, grandchildren and great grandchildren) enjoyed an early celebration of his mother’s 100th birthday… Congratulations Mrs. Baker!!!

Part of the family activities also included some time at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, so Barry’s mother was likely the oldest Grape Day 5K participant…

 

Past President Jack Anderson completed a make-up at the Escondido Club, and was part of their program honoring long-time member, past president and community leader, Elmer Cameron…

 

Some Grape Day 5K ‘events’… Future President Tina Pope gathered some of her Kraken Team members at Kit Carson Park… With their Team Shirts… Nice show of spirit Tina!!

 

Dave Luevanos also gathered some of the Interact members from San Pasqual HS to celebrate the Grape Day 5K… Nice work Dave!

Sunrise Rotarians Serving, and Announcements: 

Youth Protection Certification

President Chris reminded all that Youth Protection Certification is required if you work with youth in any of our programs.

Past President Mike O’Malley oversees the certification and recently sent emails with the forms, procedure and all the details…

Escondido East Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner Delivery

President Chris announced that East Rotary is seeking drivers to deliver meals on Thanksgiving Day… Contact is with Darrol Castor of the East Club, contact President Chris to volunteer and connect with Darrol.

Rising Stars Program

Escondido Sunrise will be contributing to this academic achievement awards program co-sponsored with the Chamber of Commerce

President Chris shared some upcoming Rotary events… Mark your calendars.

Make note of the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Drive. An email was just circulated inviting sign-ups for the following Saturdays; November 28 or December 5 or 12. The Kettle will be at Major Market, confirm your participation by contacting the project chair, Secretary John Schwab…

President Chris acknowledged Tina Pope for her outstanding Club Service, most recently by leading her Kraken Team to lead (temporarily) in our Grape Day 5K fundraising efforts… Congratulations Tina!!

 

Rotarian of the Month:

President Chris recognized two Rotarians; Past Presidents, Jim Ponder and Jeff Johnson for their outstanding leadership of our virtual Grape Day 5K…

The Grape Day 5K Has Happened!!

 

As shared by President-elect, Richard Agnew…

Our virtual event was held on Saturday October 24 at 2:00 PM…… The recorded event is available on Facebook…

 

 

Our fundraising progress to date is $43,464 through the team’s competition…with Team Kraken carrying the fundraising torch…

Actual dollars received through the Classy website is $48,213… Some funds are still coming in from pledges…

And, 304 participants registered for the event…

Our success is remarkable considering the limitations we have faced due to the Covid pandemic… Nice work by all!!

Our program will feature our two newest members, Liz Phillips and SGT Chris Leso sharing their ‘Who Am I’ presentations…

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community… 

 

 

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
