Escondido Sunrise Rotary; “Continuing to Meet and Serve our Community via Electronic Connection”……… April 30, 2020

Editor’s Note…

As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we await the time we can gather together again…

So, we met via Zoom… On April 30… 24 Sunrise Rotary members talking about service and connecting through fellowship in new ways…

President Brian didn’t need a gavel, and, he called the meeting to order with a ‘Tinkle’… Perhaps he was signaling his butler that his Irish Whiskey glass needed re-filling??

His ‘cute’ little ‘tinkle bell’ was noted… Brian, oh Brian… What has become of our bell with this little ‘tinkler’ trying to substitute…

Anniversaries:

None this week

Rotary Anniversaries:

Liz Phillips, One year… Can’t to have you join us at a meeting Liz, so you can do a “Who Am I” presentation…

Sunrise Rotarians Serving, and Announcements:

President Brian shared some information from Interfaith Community Services; specifically regarding their need for food donations; especially fresh fruit.

Dr. Joe Holtz and his bride, Geni, are regular volunteers for meal prep at Interfaith. Joe spoke about the need for fruit and the best ways to bring it to the Center…

Past President Mike Dunlap also commented that the need for fresh fruit was placed on the “Nest Door” app in Valley Center… Many fruit trees up on the hill…

Meal Support for Front-line First Responders and Health Care Workers…

Information was shared that this project is getting off the ground. A ‘Classy’ funding site has been set up… You can donate directly to support this program at https://www.classy.org/mealsfromesr

Thanks to Richard Agnew for setting up the donation site…Your support will benefit our community and those men and women that are on the front lines battling the Coronavirus…

Donations as of the meeting date total, $1503…

The opportunity to donate is on the Chamber of Commerce information site and elsewhere in the community.

Past President George Beitner and All Star Signs has prepared some sign placards that can be placed at restaurants that are preparing the food…So far Cocina del Charro and Rock ’n Jenny’s are in line to prepare meals… Others are in the works…

75 meals were served to the front line staff at Neighborhood Health Care. A number of Sunrise Rotarians helped serve… The photo shows the process and the staff was very appreciative of the support…

The Bell is Alive and well in Captivity…

President Brian’s Bell was heard from… The photo shows the bell on a ‘respirator device’… With the appropriate ‘Chemical Treatment’ additive nearby…

We know, although the bell is held captive somewhere in the North County, it is being treated carefully by perpetrators that listen to President Trump comment on Coronavirus treatment options…

Past President John Boyce shared a photo of the aerobatic flyovers saluting the health care workers in North County… The pic was taken near John’s business, with Palomar Medical Center visible on the hill…

Rotarians Having Fun…

Not to be forgotten, there are opportunities to have fun in spite of the coronavirus pandemic…

Past President Mike O’Malley shared a photo of the online poker game that takes place each Wednesday and Saturday at 7:30 PM… 17 players were participating in the last event… There’s room for more, contact Mike for details on how to join…

Support for the Escondido Community During the Pandemic:

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
