Program...

Past President George Beitner introduced San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, representing District 5…

Supervisor Desmond represents the North County Coastal area, and works actively with Supervisor Kristen Gaspar as she serves the inland communities…

Jim spoke extensively about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the varied aspects of managing the aspects of county life; disease control, business and economic challenges and the impact on public services…

Supervisor Desmond speaking to Sunrise Rotarians on our Zoom meeting…

Supervisor Desmond shared statistics on the viral impact on county residents by age categories and spoke about the percentages of positive test results.

One of his primary concerns is to see that virus outbreaks are managed and that our economic resources can begin the road to recovery as soon as possible. He did speak about the impact of County resources being managed in light of control measures instituted by the State of California.

During the Q & A session, comments were focused on the impacts of land use planning by citizen initiative; namely the Newland Sierra project. He spoke about the continuing need for median-priced housing in San Diego County such that traffic issues stemming from Riverside County can be reduced.

Supervisor Desmond also spoke about the need for implementing traffic capital improvements through the sales tax measure approved by the voters which promised expansion to Highways 78 and 67… His concern included frustration with the change in weighted votes on SANDAG facilitated by legislation from Assembly member Lorena Gonzales that placed more weight on votes from Chula Vista and San Diego; thus leaving the North and East County areas sorely needing traffic improvements but not getting support from the SANDAG Board…

Next Week’s Meeting:

Ralph Tavares leading a discussion on the impacts of the COVID-19 Virus on local business…

The next meeting will be via Zoom on Thursday July 23…

Support for our Escondido Community …

Our great community and the success of its businesses is all of our responsibilities… Support the businesses that are doing all they can to survive during this challenging time… Take out some chow… Be ready to support them when the economy begins working again…

The ‘Giving Arch’ on Grand Avenue and Centre City Parkway reminds us that Escondido is a caring, giving community…

To all; be safe and be well…. God Bless those men and women that carry the load at our medical facilities, and God Bless the first responders… May our governmental leaders be wise, thoughtful and smart as this pandemic is overtaken by our hard work and collective support…
