As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…
We met again in person at the Chamber of Commerce… Great to enjoy the fellowship again and see all your smiling faces…
Program:
Many of our club members gathered at Lake Dixon to dedicate another completed project that Escondido Sunrise Rotary has been working on. Mike Dunlap gave an historical snapshot of how our club became involved with this. Mike, along with a couple other people (I didn’t get their names, I’m sorry) formed The Legacy Endowment which is a community foundation that supports charities in the north county. To date they have 18 million dollars and this year they were able to fund $700k to the local charities. Cabin By the Lake is the avenue by which cabins have been built to provide recreational activities for the handicapped and their families. Lake Dixon has the very first cabin that was built and now because of its success there are 14 more all over San Diego County.
We also were able to dedicate the 2nd of 2 pontoon boats that handicapped people have access to be able to enjoy some water activities with their families. It was a really heartwarming time with everyone that was there, a beautiful morning indeed. Mike introduced us to Juan who contracted polio several years ago and has been able to use the facilities at Lake Dixon.
Mike also shared that the local Kiwanis group along with ESR helped build a playground for handicapped kids.
Thank you, Mike and Nancy, for a great morning at Dixon Lake and for being a part of such a wonderful thing.
