Escondido Education COMPACT; Serving the youth of our inland North County community as they receive support in major life choices regarding education, work readiness, avoidance of chemical dependency and leadership readiness…

Past President, Jack Anderson introduced Patty Huerta, Esecutive Director of the Education COMPACT for the past twenty years. Patty was described as a talented, caring leader of the COMPACT team, always will and very able at creating partnerships that support the youth of our community…

Patty Huerta speaking to Sunrise Rotarians…

Patty spoke about the youth service challenges during covid; yet COMPACT continues to serve about 1,700 youth in the greater Escondido community.

Patty shared a video prepared by the COMPACT student clientele describing all the services that are offered…

Patty spoke about the “Pillars of Service” including leadership development, youth advocacy, resident leadership academies, academic support and workforce development.

Many of the programs deal with health and wellness, including substance abuse awareness, advocacy for reduction of substance outlets (marijuana dispensaries) and alcohol restrictions. Much of these efforts are coordinated with the County Health Department, and the Escondido Police Department.

Juvenile Diversion continues to be a major partnership focus, with the Escondido Police Department, the County Probation Department and the District Attorney. All of these agencies are in active coordination with COMPACT, its staff and leadership. Patty shared that a large portion of the youth in the diversion program have been arrested to marijuana possession and use….

Patty also spoke about the programs relating to prevention and intervention and COMPACT’s efforts to support and create drug-free communities. Toward this program, she mentioned the very effective mentoring program that provides ongoing support for young people with advisors and mentors as they strive to re-direct their pathways as to school and work preparedness… Patty encouraged Sunrise Rotary members to consider a role as a mentor supporting these youth. Ages of the students range from 15-18 years of age, with 70% of the youth being young men…

As Patty was sharing information on the Juvenile Diversion program, SGT Chris Leso, a Sunrise Rotary member, commented on the effectiveness of the diversion program, and the importance of it to the front-line law enforcement professionals in our community…

Escondido Sunrise has supported the Eduction COMPACT for many years; President Chris is shown here with Patty Huerta as we present a check for $1,500 for the COMPACT programs Patty has been sharing with us…
