As we all try to conduct our professional pursuits in new ways, it’s appropriate to remind ourselves of who we are as a Serving Organization… Our accomplishments, our fellowship and the reminder of our many successes is valuable as we seek new opportunities to serve…

 

 

 

 

President Richard opened the meeting in our new location, and in a hybrid format… Most of us in person, a few online… 

As a Club, we honored our nation with a salute to our Flag led by Past President, Mike Dunlap…

 

And, an invocation was offered by Past President, Jack Anderson…

Past President, Rich Aeling was also testing the waters in Mammoth… He did have some luck fishing… And, the word was (from Miss Donna’s perspective) that this trout was a ‘line buster’… A mere 32 pounds of fighting game fish… Oh, but Donna missed the decimal point; it was a 3.2 lb. beauty…

The North County Veteran’s Standdown was a Success…

Many homeless vets and those in need of other support benefitted from the facilities at Green Oak Ranch… They also made good use of the items donated at our successful clothing drive last Spring… 

District 5340 Conference in Coronado…

President Richard and Marcia attended the events revolving around the annual District Conference…

Held at the Hotel Del Coronado, activities included a golf event, and a remembrance of 9-11…

Escondido Sunrise was recognized as being the number 3 Club in the District for Rotary Foundation giving… And, Escondido Sunrise was recognized as an “Every Rotarian, Every Year” Club in our donation efforts…

Activities also included a work project involved with water testing for regions with poor quality water…

And, an ‘active’ activity… A ‘Ride and Stride’ along the Silver Strand in Coronado…

 

 

District 5340 Golf Returns in October…

The first District Golf event of this Rotary year will be at the Vineyard in Escondido on October 18…

 

Neighborhood Health Gala Flourishes at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park…

President Richard and Marcia enjoyed the event at the Safari Park…

Grape Day 5K Event Status…

President Richard, Past Presidents, Jim Ponder, George Beitner and Jeff Johnson shared information on the fundraising progress to date… A close fundraising race between the teams… 

$70,346 raised (paid) to date, with 310 participants registered…

Grape Day 5K Fliers Available for your Business Locations as we Market our Amazing Community Event…

Past President, George Beitner shared the availability of fliers advertising the October 9 Grape Day 5K Community Celebration… George also reminded Club Members that sponsor logos can be included on our event website… So, as you secure those sponsors, ask for a ‘camera ready’ logo for their company… Coordinate the logos with George and President Richard…

 

Grape Day 5K Gets Great Media Coverage on KUSI…

Past President, Jim Ponder was interviewed on a recent morning show on KUSI… Great coverage for our event…

 

President Richard reminded Club Members that our goal is 1,000 participants, so continue to remind people to sign up to participate as well as to contribute funds…

 

There are 16 days from our last meeting ’til our Grape Day 5K Event… Saturday October 9 is the Date!!

 

Hi Fives:

Playground Equipment Project at Dixon Lake with the Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club…

Past President, Rich Aeling introduced Jim Mc Isaac of the Kiwanis Club and they reminded us of our joint playground equipment project a few years ago.

 

We are joining with the Kiwanis and other Escondido Rotary Clubs to construct a playground project providing activities for children with special physical needs. The Kiwanis are seeking a grant for the project and we can vote for their project online… See an email that went out last week…

In order to support the project, a check from the Cabins by the Lake Charity was presented to Jim for the Kiwanis project. Thanks to Past President Mike Dunlap, the Cabins by the Lake provided a gift of $5,000 for this special playground addition…

Salvation Army Bell-Ringing is Back…

President Richard brought up the topic of our participation in the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Drive. We have had a spot at Major Market for years, and the Club was asked if we wanted to continue with 3 Saturdays… November 27, December 4 and 11… A recent survey was sent to Club Members… and sign ups are available on line… The survey affirmed our desire to serve 3 Saturdays… The Salvation Army informed us that Major Market is the most giving location of all the kettle spots… So, sign up to ring the bell!!

 

Susan Maney Suffers a Fall and is in Rehab…

Information was shared that Susan fell and suffered a broken hip. She is in the Health Center at Redwood Terrace and would love to hear from Club Members. Her contact info is on Clubrunner…

 

George Beitner Travels to Virginia to Enjoy Family and the “LA” Chargers…

Past President George Beitner recently visited family at Quantico, Virginia and happened to attend a “LA Charger” game agains the Washington Redskins… Oops… The Washington Football Club… Huh?? 

The best part of the trip was watching his grands play soccer…

Melissa Walker of Distinction Gallery was introduced by Past President Brian Murphy… 

 

Melissa and her husband secured a space at 317 East Grand for their gallery… With lots of work, it became a reality with exhibit space and studios for a small number of artists…

The Gallery has been open for 17 years, serving aspiring and accomplished artists in the San Diego region… Melissa, an art school graduate, always had an interest in both art and in business… She and her husband combined these interests in Distinction Gallery…

 

A few years ago, Mellissa’s husband became ill and succumbed to cancer… The Gallery operation became a challenge for her going it alone, but has been a revitalization and time of emotional growth…

The gallery supports young artists through the ‘Art Hatch’ program, and provides scholarships to young art students… Melissa shared the great joy she has in seeing young artists learn, exhibit and work at the gallery…

Melissa shared many art images as she spoke to Sunrise Rotarians… Her power point continued to bring new and exciting images to the screen during her presentation…

 

Distinction Gallery is unique in that they are licensed to serve beer and wine on Friday and Saturday open hours from 4-10 pm…

Melissa has succeeded through her art business venture in Escondido, and many area artists have benefitted from their relationship with Melissa and the Gallery…
